Farm on Ogden Tour

Discover the innovative work of Windy City Harvest (WCH) by visiting one of our farm sites. Our 45-to 60-minute tours provide an in-depth look at our program’s history, job-training mission, community health initiatives, and sustainable growing practices. Tours are available year-round at the Farm on Ogden on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 9 – 10 am and 1 – 2 pm.

Tours are appropriate for all ages and are primarily conducted in English. If your group would like a tour in Spanish, we will do our best to accommodate. Please contact wchtours@chicagobotanic.org. Tours are primarily offered at the Farm on Ogden (3555 W. Ogden Avenue, Chicago, IL). If you are interested in touring any of our other farm sites, please contact wchtours@chicagobotanic.org.

Farm Experience

Immerse yourself in the life of an urban agriculture farmer with our three-hour farm experience. Begin with a 45-minute guided tour of our innovative headquarters at the Farm on Ogden, then, roll up your sleeves for two hours of hands-on farm work, led by our expert growers at one of our production farms. Following the tour at the Farm on Ogden, participants will dive into two hours of hands-on farm work at Rodeo Farm, one of our two production sites. Farm experiences are offered once per month on Thursdays from 9am – 12pm, March through October.

The tour portion of the farm experience takes place at the Farm on Ogden at 3555 W. Ogden Ave, Chicago, IL. The farm work portion of the experience takes place at Rodeo Farm at 2600 S. Washtenaw Ave., Chicago, IL. Windy City Harvest does not provide transportation between the Farm on Ogden and Rodeo Farm—participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation.

Ages 12+ can participate in a farm experience. For every seven minors participating, there needs to be one adult chaperone.

Field Trips for Youth

Windy City Harvest offers enriching field trips for middle and high school students (grades 6-12) at our headquarters, the Farm on Ogden. The field trip begins with a 45-minute guided tour of the Farm on Ogden, where students will discover the heart of our operations and learn about the innovative methods we use to grow food in the city. Next, students will engage in a one-hour hydroponics challenge workshop, exploring alternative agricultural methods and applying their problem-solving skills to create sustainable solutions.

School field trips take place at the Farm on Ogden (3555 W. Ogden Ave, Chicago, IL). Field trips are offered every Friday, September through May. For schools in zip codes 60623, 60624, and 60644, field trips are free. For all other schools, the cost is $140.

Chicago-based Therapeutic Horticulture Workshops

Enrich your well-being with Therapeutic Horticulture, a unique program that uses plant-based activities to foster relaxation, reduce stress, and improve physical and mental health. These sessions also promote teamwork and connection, creating opportunities for groups to collaborate while cultivating and caring for plants. We offer flexible, plant-based workshops for schools, nonprofits, and corporate groups, available as single sessions or ongoing programs. Buehler Enabling Garden Therapeutic Horticulture Workshops

Join us for a therapeutic horticulture group workshop in the Buehler Enabling Garden! Designed to be universally accessible as well as therapeutic, the Enabling Garden features raised bed plantings bursting with color, texture, and scents. Amenities include large accessible bathrooms, wheelchair accessible tables, and close proximity to parking and the rest of the garden. Group workshops are offered from May through October.  Organization staff and caregivers are NOT included in the participant count and can attend for free.

Self Guided Tours for Groups with Special Needs

There is availability for groups of up to 30 to take a free self-guided tour of the Garden. This special offering is intended for groups with disabilities or specialized needs.
