Self Guided Tours for Groups with Special Needs

There is availability for groups of up to 30 to take a free self-guided tour of the Garden. This special offering is intended for groups with disabilities or specialized needs. Parking for up to two vehicles and admission are included. If more than two vehicles are needed, please contact the Call Center at (847) 835-6801.

Youth Therapeutic Horticultural Workshops

These workshops use gardening and plant-based activities to support relaxation, self-expression, and overall well-being. Youth engage in hands-on, creative projects that encourage mindfulness while building basic horticultural skills. Grades 6 – 8
Youth will:
Explore the connections among plants, wellness, and creativity
Participate in calming, hands-on gardening activities
Build confidence through reflection and creative expression
Sample activities include:
Seed starting and plant propagation
Succulent and herb container projects
Flower pressing, mandala cards, and sand art
Painting pots with affirmations
Jewelry making with natural materials

These free, two-hour cooking workshops introduce youth to essential kitchen skills, nutrition basics, and the experience of preparing meals together. Classes combine hands-on cooking with discussion about healthy, balanced eating.
Youth will learn:
Kitchen and knife safety
How to prepare simple, nutritious meals
Key nutrients in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins
Teamwork and shared kitchen responsibility
Workshops include:
Nutrition discussions
Hands-on cooking lessons
Shared meals and clean-up

These workshops blend creative expression with nature-based learning. Led by teaching artists, youth explore multiple art forms inspired by the natural environment while building confidence and a creative voice. Grades 9 – 12
Youth will explore:
Visual, movement-based, and storytelling art forms
Creative collaboration and experimentation
Nature as inspiration for making art
Activities may include:
Digital art and photography
Cinematography and theater
Movement in nature
Nature sculptures
Sound art and creative writing
